Tiger balm is an indispensable part of your first aid kit to look after any little booboos, and to take care of your health. We are big fans of this product, and have already shared with you 18 surprising ways to use it. But we have to acknowledge that it is not always easy to find authentic and natural Tiger Balm in the shops (at least ones that aren’t full to the gills of paraffin and other substances that are far from what was contained in the original remedy). So here we have the solution for you: make it yourself, by following a few simple steps, using the exact ingredients proposed below.
What you need:
- 15 g bees wax
- 60 g coconut oil (unrefined, cold pressed)
- 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
- 10 drops of peppermint essential oil
- 5 drops of clove essential oil
- 1 dessert spoon of crushed sage, wintergreen, willow or hawthorn
- A glass or metal pot
1) Put the wax and the coconut oil into a small pot. Melt the contents of the pot on a bain-marie.
2) Turn it up to a medium heat and melt the contents, stirring continuously to prevent the mixture from burning.
3) When it is fully melted, take the pot off the heat.
4) Add the essential oils and mix them in with care. Leave the mixture to cool for a few minutes.
5) While it is cooling, bring 1 litre of water to the boil and add a dessertspoon of your chosen leaves (sage, wintergreen, willow or hawthorn). Allow it to reduce by half and strain it to remove the leaves.
6) Add 1 to 2 dessertspoons of this infusion to your wax.
7) Heat the whole lot in a bain-marie for a few minutes and stir it again.
8) Pour the mixture into your pot. Keep it in a cool, dry area, in which you allow it to cool and harden.
