Our diet can have a considerable impact on our body but also on our mental health and our mood.  Being in a bad humour can quickly become problematic in day to day life as it can influence our productiveness and our social life.  However some foods can help to control your mood swings.  Here is a list of 9 foods that can improve your mood. 

1) Chocolate

Rich in antioxidants and important minerals, chocolate is known for it’s antidepressant benefits.  It helps to relax your brain activity and encourages the secretion of healthy hormones.  This is perhaps why you chose to crack open a bar of chocolate when you are feeling sad.  That being said, you should be sensible and not eat to much chocolate as it can have negative side effects.

2) Eggs

Eggs which are rich in protein help you to feel on better form and have more energy.  As well as many other benefits, eggs contain amnio acids and essential minerals. Here’ something to put you in a good mood and get you back on form!

3) Spinach

Spinach is rich in antioxidants, folic acid and essential minerals. Spinach also contains magnesium which is known for its relaxing and calming effects. If your moral is low then spinach is a good food to eat.

4) Turkey

Turkey is a light meat that is often recommended in diets thanks to its low levels of fat.  However it also contains nutrients that can help to balance your emotional state.  It contains the amino acid tyrosine which helps to relax the body among other things.

5) Flax seeds

Flax seeds contain a large amount of omega 3.  This is a healthy fat which can help to reduce stress hormones when can contribute to improving your mood.

6) Fish

Again thanks to it’s high levels of omega 3, eating fish can help to improve your mood.  Fish is a good remedy to help combat depression or high stress levels.  That being said, only some types of fish can guarantee to have this effect.  It includes salmon, herring, tuna, sardines, halibut and trout.

7) Wholemeal bread

Rich in natural nutrients, wholemeal bread can help to keep a good mental health and physical form.  Thanks to complex carbon hydrates as well as amnio acids and fibers, this is good way to reduce stress and anxiety.

8) Strawberries

Strawberries are rich in vitamin C.  This vitamin helps to improve the production of endorphins which therefore puts you in a better mood.  It also help to regulate the activity of our nervous system which reduces sadness.

9) Honey

Thanks to the high levels of natural sugar, honey helps to increase your energy.  It also contains typtophane, an amnio acid which improves your mood and your quality of sleep.
