You need to be aware that this magical ingredient knows how to do everything and there are always new tricks to learn on how to use it. You’d be amazed how effective it is! In this article we will talk about how to use bicarbonate of soda in the kitchen both in your recipes and for cleaning!
Tips for your recipes
1) Make you meat tender easily

Once you have starting cooking the meat add two table spoons of bicarbonate of soda per litre of water so that you are guaranteed to have meat that melts in the mouth.
2) When cooking dried vegetables and pulses

Dried pulses need time before softening and being perfectly cooked however bicarbonate of soda speeds up the cooking time. When you soak dried pulses overnight in a litre of water before cooking add a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda. The next day you just need to rinse them and then sprinkle another half teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (this will be more than enough) for each litre of water used to cook them.
3) Make your cake lighter and rise more

This doesn’t work for brioche as it doesn’t replace yeast, but it is brilliant for rising a cake batter. Add one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to 500 g of flour.
4) Whipping egg whites into soft peaks

Use of pinch of bicarbonate of soda to help whip your egg whites into soft stiff peaks.
