It is always the same. You think that your day is off to a good start only to find out that your allergies have decided otherwise.  You can feel the classic symptoms appearing as your eyes start to sting, combined with sneezing fits, runny nose, and a sore head from all the congestion.  Drinking herbal teas long term can really help you out if you suffer from allergies.  You have to become a regular tea drinker not just an occasional quick fix cup!  It doesn’t work like that!

Why do herbal teas work?  Well they contain components that contribute in relieving allergy symptoms.  Some block histamine movement while others act as a decongestant.  This is all that you need to combat allergies.  If you add a little real honey and some lemon juice to improve the taste you will have everything to treat a sore throat or a weak immune system.

1) A herbal tea for all types of allergies

What you need:

  • 1 dose of rooibos
  • 1 dose of mint tea
  • 1 dose of nettle tea
  • 1 dose of yerba maté
  • 1 dose of lemon balm

You should use equal doses of each tea.  Make the doses relatively large depending on stock that you would like to prepare.

Steps:

1) Start by mixing your ingredients and transferring them into a airtight container.

2) Simmer 250 ml of water and add a tea spoon of your mixture.

3) Leave the herbal tea to infuse for 5 minutes.  Add honey or lemon if you would like and drink!

2) The best antihistamine tea

What you need:

  • 1 dose of nettle tea
  • 1 dose of peppermint tea
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of ground ginger or a few slices of fresh ginger.

Steps:

1) Mix the above ingredients into your cup or loose tea infuser.

2) Pour hot water into your cup and leave to infuse for 5 to 8 minutes.

3) Add honey or lemon if you would like and drink!
