It can come as a nasty surprise as you get older to realise that despite what you had been led to believe, adolescents are not the only ones to get spots! They can also appear on adult skin. We can blame several factors: genetics, the environment, diet, hormones, etc. And if you clicked on this article the second you saw the title, it may be because you are one of the people facing this scourge, losing hope that anything will ever work! And like us, you may also have come to the conclusion that abrasive products sold in the shops do more harm than good.
This is why we have compiled a list of recipes for masks that you will love as much as your skin will love them, without irritating your skin in the process. And if you are allergic to the idea of making home made cosmetics, because you never seem to have the complicated ingredients they require, you are sure to find something on this list that you can make with what you have in your presses!
1) Activated charcoal mask
This mask works a treat for spots and dilated pores. You need to mix a large teaspoon of activated charcoal powder with a few drops of lavender essential oil and black seed oil. Make a paste by adding apple cider vinegar. Apply it to your skin and leave it to dry, before rinsing with cold water.
2) Avocado and honey
Reduce a quarter of an avocado to a purée and add a generous spoon of organic honey (use manuka honey if you have it). Apply it to your skin and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse it off with hot water at first, to make the texture softer and easier to rinse off, and then finish by rinsing with cold water.
3) Garlic mask for spots (and vampires)
4) Honey and aspirin mask
Crush 2 or 3 aspirin tablets and mix with a tablespoon of water. Add a teaspoon of raw honey and stir. Add a little more honey if the mixture is too thick. Apply it to your skin for 10 to 15 minutes, and rinse off with hot water.
